3 Signs That Your Kitchen Cabinets Need to be Replaced

If you’re not sure whether to replace or reface your cabinets, look out for the following signs:

  1. The structure of your cabinets have been compromised – You can usually tell the quality of your cabinets by looking at the material of cabinet boxes and doors. If they’re weak or bowing in any fashion, it’s likely time to replace. Low grade kitchen cabinets can often swell when they come in contact with moisture, which can become an eyesore and weaken the integrity. If you notice that the wood, or furniture board is heavily damaged or breaking down it’s likely time to consider investing in a higher quality kitchen cabinetry.
  2. You have Builder’s grade kitchen cabinets – If you’re investing the time and money for a kitchen renovation, you want to make sure that your kitchen cabinets will stand up to the test of time. The last thing you want is to invest in a kitchen renovation only to see signs of wear on your kitchen cabinets in a few short years. If budget will allow, we always recommend replacing cabinetry, especially if you currently have a builder’s grade cabinet. Builder’s grade cabinets are often made of particle board that deteriorates, thinner shelves that bow and standard hinges and drawer glides that wear out. Quality cabinetry has become competitive in cost, oftentimes, equalling the cost of what refacing would run. It only makes sense to spend the same amount of money and get a better end product.
  3. You’re changing the layout of your kitchen – If you’ve decided to completely change the layout of your kitchen, replacing your cabinetry is almost a requirement. When you start to add items like kitchen islands, or remove walls and reconfigure entire areas, it’s better to replace your cabinets as opposed to having to modify existing cabinetry to serve a different function.
