This summer has been busy, thanks to several home renovation projects. We didn’t want the season to end without providing an update on our new home construction project in Orange County. In October, we published a blog post outlining some of the challenges we encountered getting this unique project off the ground. Click here to read that blog post before we provide this latest update.
We’re proud to announce that we finished the new home construction project in Orange County. We couldn’t be happier with the results and thought our current and potential clients would love to see some finished pictures.
Several challenges arose throughout the project, but we were happy with the finished product, and the homeowner was ecstatic that she could achieve her dream home while staying within her budget.
As we neared the finish line in this new construction project, one of the challenges we ran into was dealing with the well & septic system. Orange County ended up requiring a raised block system, which is a more expensive septic system. Because we were involved from the beginning, we could quickly adjust our client’s budget to trim expenses in other areas and avoid going over budget. Rural new construction builds can be challenging for utilities because a well and septic system is often required.
One huge advantage of new construction as opposed to a home renovation is that we were able to utilize standard cabinet sizes, which are much less expensive than custom cabinets. We designed the kitchen to utilize standard cabinet sizes while still giving our client the look and feel of a “custom kitchen” without the custom price tag.
Because we utilized engineered trusses and i-joists, the waste was extremely minimal. Typically, framing a house creates significant waste that must be disposed of, which not only means more scrap wood headed to the landfill but also added expense. With this new construction project, we were able to have minimal waste because of how precisely engineered trusses and i-joists are made.
We’re proud to say that we built this new home from start to finish in around four months. This is an admirable feat, considering the challenges we faced along the way. While the design and planning phase lasted longer than four months, being prepared paid dividends when it came to the actual construction of the new home.
