Kitchen Remodeling Questionnaire

At Prince & Sons, kitchen remodels are one of our favorite projects to tackle. Over the past decade we’ve amassed a set of guidelines that we use when starting any kitchen project, big or small. We thought it would be beneficial to feature some of these questions in this kitchen remodeling questionnaire so that our clients can understand the importance of proper planning when it comes to renovating one of the most used areas in your entire home.

Questions to Think About When Remodeling Your Kitchen

How quickly do you need the work completed?

In today’s real estate climate, many reputable general contractors are quite busy. Before starting on any type of renovation project you need to have a clear understanding of a timeline with the general contractor that you choose.

Will you be relocating appliances?

Costs can add up quickly if you’re moving appliances within your kitchen. Moving appliances also means reconfiguring plumbing and electrical connections, which obviously means more trades in your home and a larger budget.

Will you be removing or altering walls?

Moving or removing walls brings with it additional costs and complexity. If a wall is load bearing and needs to be removed, additional beams will likely need to be added and a structural engineer may need to be involved to ensure the wall removal will not cause undue stress on the foundation of your home.

Are you interested in new cabinetry?

Cabinetry is one of the most important aspects of any kitchen renovation and it’s important that your general contractor understands your wants and needs. Your budget will likely dictate the type of kitchen cabinetry you’ll be able to choose from, but it’s important to work with a general contractor like Prince & Sons who is also a dealer for several cabinet manufacturers covering a wide range of budgets. This gives you the ultimate flexibility when it comes to choosing the perfect kitchen cabinets.

What is your budget?

It’s best to have an idea of your budget range when you decide to sit down with a general contractor to discuss your kitchen remodeling project. This way the contractor can help you to steer clear of any decisions that will force you over your ideal budget.

Do you have any construction drawings or will you have a design professional involved in the project?

Some clients come to us with full sets of construction drawings. While we’re happy to work with these individuals, we also have a member of our team who is well versed in CAD and can help you to develop drawings that will allow you to finally have the kitchen of your dreams.

It’s also important to let your contractor know if you have a design professional in mind so that they can be involved from the start to help ensure smooth communication with all parties.

Will you be occupying the space during the kitchen renovation?

A kitchen renovation can be messy and frustrating for those looking to occupy their home while the remodel is taking place. While definitely possible, it’s important that you let your contractor know whether or not you’ll be occupying your home during the renovation.

Are you ready to talk more about remodeling your kitchen?

As you can see, there are quite a few questions that need to be answered before you can start planning your new kitchen remodel. If you’re interested in a kitchen renovation, we’ve compiled many of the questions above into an interactive kitchen remodeling questionnaire located on our website. Feel free to fill this out and someone from the Prince & Sons team will follow up with you as soon as possible.
