When you meet for a kitchen consultation with a general contractor, your contractor should be able to thoroughly explain the entire renovation process from planning & permitting all the way through to project completion. A general contractor should also be able to explain the benefits and drawbacks of certain design decisions as well as the benefits and drawbacks of using various materials.
If you attempt to manage a renovation on your own, instead of working with an experienced general contractor, you’ll be dealing directly with trade specific contractors. This will make it more difficult to get turnkey planning and consideration and you’ll be limited to what that trade specific contractor’s expertise involve.
When we’re working with a new client, one of the first questions we ask is “What is your end goal?” Not everyone wants a large, expansive kitchen that is fit for a king. This is also the reason why we discuss a client’s kitchen renovation budget early on in the process. If your goals and budget don’t align, we do everything we can to find that middle ground by offering suggestions that will give the biggest bang for the buck. We also incorporate a client’s personal goals into our consultations. If our clients are planning to sell in the near future, we may suggest a design that will make a house easier to sell versus decisions that we would recommend for your personal taste and pleasure if this is your forever home.
